The dual release date for the cuddly and wholesome Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the death metal demon-ripping Doom Eternal led to a playful kinship between fans, including some lovely crossover art. Now that the big day is upon us, it seems as if the whole industry is getting in on the kudos for Nintendo and Id Software, with tweets of support and their own professional fandom appearing across social media channels.
Some of the posts are sincere congrats or silly jokes. Some are directed at one game or the other, though many of them celebrate both in some way. Sea of Thieves and Battlefield seem to have made the same joke, while Arkane gave a back-pat to Id Software as a fellow Texas developer.
The outspoken indie publisher Devolver said it simply closed up shop entirely for the day so that its employees could play the two games. Asked to clarify if this was the actual policy, GameSpot received the reply, “Absolutely.”
Both GameSpot’s Doom Eternal review-in-progress and Animal Crossing: New Horizons review-in-progress gave the games high marks. Be sure to check out our Doom Eternal walkthrough and tips on how to spend your first day on the Animal Crossing island. Or just rock out to a metal homage crossover.
Devolver Digital is closed today so that employees can spend time with loved ones, specifically @DOOM and @AnimalCrossing.

We’ve had the honor of working alongside our friends at @idSoftware 10 years now. Their latest, DOOM Eternal, is our favorite yet.
Congrats to everyone there on an incredible game and artistic achievement! pic.twitter.com/cohRxAclrP— Bethesda Game Studios (@BethesdaStudios) March 20, 2020
