Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Beats Call of Duty on UK Sales Chart; PS5 Grabbed 19% of Overall Unit Sales

Today GfK published (via GamesIndustry) its physical video game sales charts for the UK, focusing on the past week, and there are a couple of surprises.

For the past 12 years, the annual Call of Duty release debuted at the top of the charts, but this time it was beaten by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

The new Viking-focused game debuted with more than twice the sales compared to its predecessor, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

42% of sales were for PS4, 18% were for PS5 (Despite the fact that the console has not launched in the UK yet. More on this below), while 40% were for Xbox.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War recorded a decline in physical sales by over 64% compared to Modern Warfare, so it had to be content with second place.

Third place was taken by Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, with sales down 56% compared to the original Marvel’s Spider-Man.

71% of its sales were for PS5, while 29% were for PS4.

Demon’s Souls, which released exclusively for PS5, still managed to grab 6th place.

Sony’s new console managed to grab 19% of unit sales and 25% of the revenue, which is particularly impressive since the console itself won’t be available in the UK before November 19.

It’s worth mentioning that most games had a single SKU for Xbox encompassing both Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, so it’s not possible to calculate a precise percentage for Microsoft’s new console.
