Assassin’s Creed Valhalla May Get Beowulf DLC

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is another historical epic from Ubisoft, this time taking place in the dark ages and detailing the Viking conquest of large parts of England. But the series has always paid homage to famous myths and legends as well, and there’s reason to suspect that a piece of Valhalla DLC will explore the epic poem Beowulf.

A description on the German Ubisoft Store mentions the Beowulf DLC. A translated version of text promoting the season pass reads, “Includes the story mission: The Legend of Beowulf. Discover the cruel truth behind the legend.” GameSpot has contacted Ubisoft.

Beowulf is an epic poem composed around 1,000 ACE, in the midst of the dark ages that serve as the setting for Valhalla. In the story, the war hero Beowulf becomes a king and defeats a dragon at the cost of his own life.

Assassin’s Creed has been known for accurately reproducing history, even creating a “Discovery Tour” mode for Origins and Odyssey that let players explore landmarks without combat or story missions. But it has also been sprinkling in mythology and integrating it into the story. Odyssey’s campaign had Kassandra come face to face with mythological beasts like the Minotaur and Medusa, and the DLC even had you explore the Roman conception of the afterlife as well as the lost city of Atlantis. These are all treated as core to the story–Valhalla even picks up where the Atlantis story left off.
