Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning is getting a remastered version, and publisher THQ Nordic has now announced a release date and some new details about the so-called “Re-Reckoning.” It’s coming on September 8, 2020 to PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and a new expansion is coming next year.
The release date announcement came alongside a trailer for the Fatesworn expansion, to come in 2021. The trailer doesn’t shed much detail on the new content, simply showing a hero fighting off a horde of monsters.
THQ Nordic also announced the various purchase options for Re-Reckoning. The standard edition will be $40 / £35, while a “Fate Edition” that includes the upcoming expansion will be $55 / £48. There’s no word yet on what the Fatesworn expansion will cost as a standalone purchase.
You can also pick up a Collector’s Edition for $110 / £100. That includes an Alyn Shir figurine, keychain, five pieces of artwork, the soundtrack from Grant Kirkhope, and a collector’s box. THQ released a trailer for the CE as well.
GameSpot’s original Kingdoms of Amalur review from 2012 concluded it had top-notch combat but was held back by generic characters and world-building.
“How much you love Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning depends on what you look for in a role-playing game. Let’s say you long for a pervasive sense of time and place, for a great story featuring memorable characters, or for varied quests given weight by superb context,” Kevin VanOrd wrote. “If that’s you, then Kingdoms of Amalur will disappoint. Then again, you might want wonderful battles against cool creatures, terrific looting and leveling, and lots of ways to customize your skills and equipment. If so, then this is the world you should inhabit. The context is hardly inspired, but you’ll be having so much fun that you may not care.”
