Monster Hunter Movie Gets New Info And Photo

British film magazine Empire has published a new photo and some information offering more of a peek into the upcoming film adaptation of Monster Hunter. The movie, written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson (who has worked on other game adaptation movies like 1995’s Mortal Kombat and 2002’s Resident Evil), is due out on September 4 and is said to be a thriller featuring “massive monsters in lush natural landscapes with a variety of ridiculously over-sized weapons.”

The film stars Milla Jovovich, Tony Jaa, and Ron Perlman, though many other major elements have yet to be announced or disclosed. The Empire piece explains that Jovovich and her husband Anderson are both “huge” fans of the Capcom series, and that her character, Artemis, isn’t canon but is meant to be a “grounded, relatable real-world character who is fresh to the world of Monster Hunter” to help create a way into the game’s world and lore for newcomers.

Speaking about Jovovich and her film character, Anderson explains that, “Although Milla’s character’s not specifically in the game, she chose the same armor and weapons she uses in the game, so there were aspects of her game character that got folded into the movie representation.”

Jovovich then proclaims her affinity for the massive dual blades: “I experimented with different weapons during the game and was able to kill more monsters with those blades…I thought they’d look really beautiful in an action sequence.”
