2022 approval ratings for Nintendo directors

Nintendo’s 82nd Annual General Meeting of Shareholders took place this week, and during the event, shareholders voted on the election of six directors. That provides us with approval ratings for some of the most important people at the company, including president Shuntaro Furukawa and creative fellow Shigeru Miyamoto.

The full results are as follows:

– Shuntaro Furukawa: 815,297 votes for (88.32%), 105,175 votes against, 277 no votes
– Shigeru Miyamoto: 851,470 votes for (92.24%), 66,931 votes against, 2,349 no votes
– Shinya Takahashi: 909,765 votes for (98.56%), 8,637 votes against, 2,349 no votes
– Ko Shiota: 909,761 votes for (98.56%), 8,641 votes against, 2,349 no votes
– Satoru Shibata: 909,764 votes for (98.56%), 8,638 votes against, 2,349 no votes
– Chris Melandri: 916,185 votes for (99.25%), 4,296 votes against, 277 no votes

And here’s a look at how the results panned out last year for comparison:

– Shuntaro Furukawa: 863,534 votes for (96.86%), 24,822 votes against, 904 no votes
– Shigeru Miyamoto: 872,605 votes for (97.88%), 13,924 votes against, 2,731 no votes
– Shinya Takahashi: 872,600 votes for (97.88%), 13,928 votes against, 2,731 no votes
– Ko Shiota: 869,831 votes for (97.57%), 16,696 votes against, 2,731 no votes
– Satoru Shibata: 872,393 votes for (97.85%), 14,135 votes against, 2,731 no votes
– Chris Melandri: 885,413 votes for (99.31%), 2,948 votes against, 904 no votes

All directors ended up receiving a significantly high approval percentage in 2022. However, it’s true that there have been a couple of dips – notably for Furukawa. Nintendo is anticipating a drop in sales this fiscal year, which is likely what we’re seeing here in the results.
