Game developer 1047 Games and peripheral manufacturer Logitech have announced the 2022 Splitgate Pro Series and Challengers Series with a total annual pool amounting to $500,000 (£372,500).

The newly-announced Challengers series is a competition aimed at players who wish to become professionals and will feature a series of smaller tournaments throughout the year. The flagship Splitgate Pro Series will feature prize pools of up to $100,000 (£74,500) per season.

Splitgate is a new first-person arena shooter game released in 2019. Last year’s inaugural Splitgate esports season was a success, according to the developer 1047 Games. The new season will be developed with the help of Logitech Esports Services, a branch of Logitech focused on creating tailor-made tournaments for clients.

Ian Proulx, co-founder of 1047 Games, said: “Logitech has brought competitive play for Splitgate to a whole new level. Our first season of professional competition was a big success thanks to the talented team at Logitech Esports Services.

“Building on that success for 2022 is something our team has been passionate about and together with Logitech Esports Services’ experience and drive we’re able to announce a bigger, better series for 2022 and, importantly, a way for our most skilled players in the community to compete on a professional level.”

The biggest addition to the Splitgate competitive season is the Challengers Series. The tournament will be open to all Splitgate players that do not play professionally and will feature ladder play for a chance to win prizes. The top players from the Challengers Series have a chance to compete in a playoff tournament for a $5,000 (£3,725) prize pool, as well as participate in Relegation for the chance to compete in the next season of the Pro Series.

Esports Insider says: Splitgate is a very interesting FPS, and a sizeable cash injection such as this one is sure to improve the competitive landscape for the game. The addition of the Challengers Series is a good idea, especially because the pro teams can face relegation from the league. This is a recipe for drama and is just what a newcomer to the competitive landscape needs.
