2024 NFL Draft Prospect Watchlist: Wide Receivers

2024 NFL Draft Prospect Watchlist: Wide Receivers

The 2023 NFL Draft is over and teams are getting comfortable with their new draft picks. The next class of players is getting prepared now for another year of college football. Each position will be analyzed in the coming days. Here is the 2024 NFL Draft prospect watchlist: Wide Receivers.

Emeka Egbuka, Ohio State Buckeyes

After being limited in his first season on campus, Egbuka really showed his talent in the 2022 season. He caught 74 passes for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns to help the Buckeyes make the College Football Playoff. With such a good season under his belt, he is poised for a big 2023.

Egbuka has solid size for a wide receiver and can play on the outside at the next level. He has polished releases at the line of scrimmage and has experience as a returner. Egbuka can show more effort as a blocker and eliminate focus drops to enhance his draft stock in 2023.

Marvin Harrison Jr., Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State played Harrison Jr. a limited amount during his freshman season. He, like Egbuka, really became a star during the 2022 season. Harrison Jr. finished the season with 77 catches for 1,263 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was having a solid game against Georgia in the College Football Playoff Semifinal before being knocked out of the game with a concussion.

Harrison Jr. has the chance to be one of the best wide receiver prospects that the NFL Draft has seen in a while. He has good size, but also has good route-running. Harrison Jr. can run after the catch to create big plays, but also has the ability to go win jump balls. There aren’t many weaknesses in his game, but he can show he can handle physical coverage better and improve on his focus drops.

Johnny Wilson, Florida State Seminoles

Wilson played two seasons at Arizona State with limited production. He had just 243 career receiving yards when he transferred to Florida State last season. For the Seminoles, Wilson hauled in 43 catches for 897 yards and five touchdowns. His play helped the Seminoles win 10 games.

The first thing that NFL evaluators will notice about Wilson is his size. He stands at 6-foot-7 and 235 pounds. There may be some who want to move him to tight end because he could struggle to separate from NFL corners. He can be a good receiver though, as he has shown to be a good deep threat and red zone mismatch.

Xavier Worthy, Texas Longhorns

Worthy has had two solid seasons for Texas. He had 62 catches for 981 yards and 12 touchdowns as a freshman. Worthy was able to follow that up with 60 catches for 760 yards and nine touchdowns in 2022. He helped the Longhorns improve from five to eight wins in 2022.

While Worthy has the height to play on the outside, he needs to add strength. He weighs 165 pounds and can struggle with blocking and shedding physical coverage on the outside. Worthy has good speed and the ball skills to be a deep threat. He also has return experience.

Other Draft Prospects to Watch

Jacob Cowing, Arizona Wildcats- Cowing started his college career at UTEP, where he put up great stats. He moved up to Arizona last season and proved he could play against better competition.

Troy Franklin, Oregon Ducks- While he will need to add strength, Franklin has the ability to be a good outside receiver at the next level. He caught nine touchdown passes for Oregon in 2022.

Zakhari Franklin, TBD- After starring for the UTSA Roadrunners for the past four seasons, Franklin has just entered the transfer portal. He has been the number one target of the Roadrunners’ high-powered offense for the last two seasons.

Rome Odunze, Washington Huskies- Odunze has improved every season he has been at Washington. He has shown the ability to make acrobatic catches and should have the size to be a good outside receiver in the NFL.

Ainias Smith, Texas A&M Aggies- Smith is a former running back that was moved to wide receiver due to the talent the Aggies had in the backfield. He projects to be a slot receiver with good quickness and the skills that carried over from the running back position.
