5 Things Learned From College Football Week 8

College football week 7 is in the books. After every week fans can take away things from what happened on the field. Here are 5 things learned from college football week 8.

1. Clemson has a Clear Path to the College Football Playoff

Clemson has played plenty of tough teams over the last few weeks and had another tough matchup against undefeated Syracuse in week 8. Syracuse was up early, but Clemson benched quarterback D.J. Uiagalelei due to his poor play. Cade Klubnik led the Tigers back in the game and they won 27-21.

With the win, Clemson now has the bulk of their tough games over with. They have defeated Wake Forest, NC State, Florida State and Syracuse. Notre Dame, Louisville, Miami and South Carolina remain on the schedule. All of those games will be ones that Clemson is favored in and should win. That means the path is clear to make the College Football Playoff again after missing out last season.

2. Oregon is Good

After getting destroyed by Georgia in week 1, Oregon was left for dead in terms of the national landscape of college football. They then won five games straight to set up a big matchup with UCLA, who was unbeaten. The Ducks won 45-30 behind a great performance by quarterback Bo Nix.

The win makes Oregon the only undefeated team in Pac-12 play. They are on track to make the Pac-12 Championship Game and could possibly make the College Football Playoff with some help. After week one of the season, not many people predicted Oregon bouncing back this well.

3. TCU has Some Magic

TCU went into week 8 undefeated and had a big matchup with Kansas State. Despite Kansas State having injury issues at quarterback, the Wildcats were winning 28-10 in the first half. They couldn’t hold the lead though, as TCU came storming back. They ended up winning the game 38-28.

The Horned Frogs weren’t projected to be leading the Big 12 this late in the season, but they keep winning. It looked bleak against Kansas State, but they had enough to get the comeback win. Sonny Dykes is doing a phenomenal job, but there is some magic behind this Horned Frogs’ team as well.

4. Oklahoma State is Still in Play

After losing to TCU to ruin their perfect record, Oklahoma State had a tough rebound game against Texas. Although the Longhorns led early in the game, the Cowboys finished strong. They only allowed three second-half points by Texas, which enabled them to come back and win.

Now that they have gotten back on track, Oklahoma State is capable of winning the rest of their regular season games. There are some tough ones, including games against Kansas State and Oklahoma, but the Cowboys could win those too. If they are able to win out, they may get a chance to avenge their loss to TCU in the Big 12 Championship Game, which could help their case to be in the College Football Playoff.

5. LSU has Improved

LSU started the season with a loss to Florida State. It looked like the season could be a mess going forward. The Tigers did lose a few weeks ago to Tennessee, but have looked solid otherwise. In week 8, they went down early to Ole Miss, but were able to come back and win the game.

There was debate whether LSU would make a bowl game after week 1, but now they are still in contention for the SEC West with their only SEC loss being to Tennessee. Jayden Daniels has improved drastically and with it, the whole team has taken a step forward. Brian Kelly has done a great job getting this team from where they started to where they are now.
