Three of the last six H2Hs contested between Western Sydney and Newcastle have been a draw, whilst the three remaining clashes have all been decided by just a single strike. In addition, four of these two competitors six combined clashes this season have been decided by again just a solitary goal or less. And with Sulejman Krpic (two goals this campaign) representing the home side and Beka Mikeltadze (13 goals last season) playing for the visitors, this game promises to be one hell of an opener for Round 4.The Wanderers have worked hard to turn CommBank Stadium into a fortress and slowly but surely this season they are reaping the benefits of that. Opening the season up, they beat Perth there 1-0. And in the process they limited the to opposition to just six shots in total and only two on target. Whilst at the second time of asking they were still pretty impressive in what was a tough-as-nails 1-1 stalemate against Brisbane. A match which saw them keep the opposition to only seven shots throughout, with just three landing on target. Their notorious, new look back five, led by two-time A-League Championship winner Lawrence Thomas + two-time Super Lig champion and 121X capped former Lyon Man Marcelo has absolutely stifled their rivals this season. Facing off against a new-look and attacking based outfit in form of the Jets will no doubt be a difficult task, but one that all five are more then capable of completing.

Charlie Austin take a bow. The prolific goal scorer and lethal Striker finally got one on the board for the Roar, as last weekend his hard-earned 50th-minute equaliser saw his side take a well-deserved point out of CommBank Stadium via a 1-1 draw against the Wanderers. And many Brisbane supporters will be hoping that his confidence is sky high once again as they prepare to go to battle against the Victory. Which it may well be given that, in addition to him opening his account for his new side, the Roar have also won two and drawn three out of their last six clashes versus their arch-rivals. It’ll be far from an easy task, but Austin & Co are more then capable of taking something out of this tasty encounter.If Victory Captain Josh Brillante had not been shown red early on last weekend in the Melbourne Derby, then the result may have completely contrasted that of their 2-0 defeat at the hands of City. As through owning 49% possession of the ball, the Victory took 11 shots, whilst also challenging their opposition physically, winning 53 duels to their 45. Meanwhile the Roar kept the Wanderers scoreless throughout 85+ minutes of their encounter, whilst also leaking just eight fouls to the hosts 15. It well and truly is a case of what could’ve been for the two arch-rivals as they seek to avenge their results of last round with a commanding one this week.

Currently occupying 11th and 12th position on the ladder respectively, there’s not been a whole lot for both of the Mariners and the ‘Green & Black’ to cheer about this season, with both sides sitting on one-point a piece. Whilst for John Aloisi’s reigning champions, they just need to get some more goals on the board, PERIOD! As they’ve scored just three strikes through three matches so far. At least one fan base should head home happy come the full-time whistle though.As if things weren’t worrying enough for Western United, at least on paper it doesn’t appear to get much better against the Mariners. Three of their four games ever contested against the Central Coast have seen them struggle for potency in front of goals and as a result they’ve gone scoreless. And they have only ever fashioned two goals against the opposition, with those coming during a 3-2 defeat in 2021, with them never having won a single game versus Nick Montgomery’s troops either. Through 21 attempted shots at AAMI Park vs Macarthur last round, they scored just one strike in what was a 1-1 draw. The question that has to be asked is, if they couldn’t do it there and then, how can they do it here and now vs the Mariners? Given the hosts struggles, they’ll have a fighting chance, but it’ll be far, far and far from easy for them.

‘Sydney Derbies’ between these two teams never disappoint. And regardless of which side of the fence you sit on, this encounter promises to provide more or less the same entertainment that we’ve seen throughout the years. While you can look no further then two influential Attackers in the form of aspiring Socceroo Daniel Arzani for the ‘Bulls’ and ex-Nottingham Forest Man Joe Lolley repping Sydney FC as to some of the players who will provide that banging value for money. Arzani will keep an older ‘Sky Blues’ squad on their toes, with his swift and slashing moves leaving his opponents grasping for air this season (one goal and one assist). Whilst Lolley has proven he’s dangerous no matter where he’s placed out on the field (two goals scored). This match will be yet another chapter added to their already fun-filled, yet equally as intense history against one another. Outside of watching Arzani and Lolley go head to head against one another, there’s also plenty of other things to look out for in this matchup and one of those is Dwight Yorke coaching against the side he was such a star for during his A-League playing days. He played 22 contests for the Sydney FC, winning the competition in 2005/06. Meanwhile his next club following Sydney was at the famous Sunderland A.F.C., so he still had a lot left in the tank during his short but spirited time in the land ‘down under’. And now facing off against them from the sidelines he’s faced with the difficult, but very achievable responsibilities of reigning in former teammate Steve Corica’s ‘Sky Blues’ and handing them a second defeat of the season. Things might get a touch spicy out on the touch lines!

Adelaide head into this game off the back of an extremely underserved red card call, courtesy of their bullocks 2-2 away draw vs Sydney last Sunday afternoon. Leading the home side 1-0, Hiroshi Ibusuki was given his matching orders 40-minutes into the game, despite him only coming into contact with the opposition after he had won the ball. The result ended at two goals a piece and whilst the red card was rescinded earlier this week, the result was left unchanged for the ‘Reds’ who will play the Glory with a lot of venom in their system. And with Perth themselves having just defeated the Mariners 2-1 in Gosford, this rivalry promises to produce a brutal, yet beautiful encounter once again, as we’ve played witness to many seasons before.Playing their first match at the newly renovated Coopers Stadium on what should be a beautiful afternoon in Southern Australia, this game promises to be big for both teams. Ibusuki will no doubt come out with a point to prove and he even took to Twitter to ask people what they thought of the tackle, with many coming to the conclusion that it should’ve just been play on or at the absolute worst, a yellow card. Whilst fellow attacking partner in crime Craig Goodwin came out flying in his hot pursuit of a place in Qatar with one goal assist + six shot assists versus Sydney and playing in front of his passionate and vocal home supporters, there’s nothing to suggest that he won’t keep his rich vein of form up. While Perth can also only go upwards from here with commanding Midfielder Aaron McEneff, a former Tottenham youth player, already having two goals on the season, playing a vital part in an attack that’s promising ‘glory’ to the Perth supporters. And despite the youth filtered throughout the squad, Ruben Zadkovich’s Men appear to have already come along in leaps and bounds this season. GAME ON!

City have had a hot start to the season so far, having won 3/3 games, meanwhile the Phoenix have picked up just two-points from their first three contested matches. Working in the ‘Nixs’ favour however is that recent history highlights that they’ve got a massive edge over Melbourne results wise. This is because they’ve been responsible for knocking them out of the last two editions of the Australia Cup (formerly know as the FFA Cup). That’s especially so considering how much they need them at this stage of the new campaign already.Despite going down 3-1 in the Hunter Valley to the Jets last round, there were still quite a few positives for Talay to take out of the heated encounter. One major positive being that despite the loss, his side still conjured up 24 shots and saw eight go on target in the process, in addition to them owning 59% possession of the ball throughout the match. Wellington may well have prevailed against a lesser team, but Newcastle to their credit, ultimately were tough to break down. And even more so incredibly the Phoenix also managed to complete 90% of all their attempted passes, 599/669. Honing in on those various factors and putting them to better use against Melbourne may well see them take advantage of a slightly complacent City team.
