A second serving of steampunk – Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster is out now

Square Enix’s Pixel Remaster rollout is at its conclusion, with the release of Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster on mobile. This timeless title is a landmark in the developer’s series, often noted as the first major pivot towards cyberpunk and dystopian imagery that gave the franchise some of its biggest successes, with elaborate landscapes and universal stakes. And now you can take the world of FFVI on the go, without having to strap on the Magitek armour.

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding the Final Fantasy VI Pixel Remaster mobile release, especially following the relative success of the other remastered titles. While this is great news for mobile fans, some of you are frustrated that the games haven’t found their way over to the Switch yet. Still, it doesn’t seem out of the question for Square to bring over more ports, so we’re hoping to adventure the World of Balance using our Joy-Cons sometime soon.

Until then, we’ll take touch mechanics over nothing as a way of getting back into one of Square Enix’s most celebrated narrative masterclasses, as will others by the look of the positive reception that the game is receiving. Despite frustrations from Switch owners, it’s interesting to see the developer bring more titles to mobile, and we’re very excited to get our hands on Final Fantasy 7 Ever Crisis sometime soon.
