Aaron Donald signs $60 Million Extension with Rams

Rams DT Aaron Donald has restructured his contract and signed an extension. The new deal makes him the highest paid non-quarterback in NFL history. According to sources, he has signed a two-year extension worth $60 million. He has also re-worked his contract through 2024, giving him $40 million more during that span. Donald’s new deal is now officially worth $95 million through 2024, with $65 million in guaranteed money.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Monday morning.

Donald is without doubt the best defensive player in the league, and arguably the best overall player in the NFL right now. Some even tout him as being better than Lawrence Taylor, and maybe even the best defensive player of all time. Before the re-worked contract, Donald was mulling retirement, by his own admission. That may have just been a ploy to get the deal done with expedience.

In his eight-year career so far, Donald has three AP Defensive Player of the Year awards, seven First Team All-Pro selections, eight Pro Bowl nods, a Deacon Jones award and a nomination to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. Now, in 2021, he has added a Super Bowl ring to his extensive resume. In fact, he ended the Super Bowl himself with a sack of Joe Burrow.
