After Backlash, Ubisoft Ensures DLCs Will Work After Select Titles’ Online Service Closure

A handful of Ubisoft games from the early 2010s were to close their online servers on September 1. This will render all multiplayer content unplayable, but also, for technical reasons, disables the use of paid DLC that players have purchased. Including DLC for single-player content that should be working despite the servers closing.

Players have made it clear this is not a good move, and Ubisoft has now updated the status of the games.

Except for Space Junkies, all the games Ubisoft previously announced to have its online service decommissioned have been delayed until October 1.

Players can still buy single-player DLCs, but must activate them before October 1 to ensure that they can be used after the servers closed. Should they be activated, players get to download and keep playing the DLCs long after the servers are closed.

A compromise, but better than having content you paid a license for suddenly gone because of outdated tech.

On one positive note, Ubisoft Mainz is currently working on updating Anno 2070 so that it won’t be decommissioned.

The upcoming update will also port the game to 64-bit, so that the strategy game can make use of all your PC memory. The update will go live on September 7, and all online features will remain intact.
