Aleksib allowed to explore options outside of G2

Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen has announced in a brief statement on Twitter that he has been allowed to explore options in other teams, suggesting his time with G2 is coming to an end following a season that saw the roster struggle to live up to expectations.

While G2 have yet to comment on the situation outside of CEO Carlos “ocelote” Rodriguez saying he has “lots of thinking to do,” it is likely that Aleksib has played his last event with the team given that he has been allowed to explore other opportunities.

Aleksib’s time with G2 seems to be coming to an end

The announcement comes in the aftermath of G2‘s early exit at IEM Cologne, where the team around Aleksib went out in the group stage following losses to Movistar Riders and NIP.

The German event was another notch in a slew of disappointing results from the team that was rebuilt at the beginning of the year to break G2‘s years-long title duck.

Their best result following the additions of Aleksib, Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, and Rémy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam came early in the form of a runners-up finish at IEM Katowice in February, and that ended up being their only grand final appearance in the first half of 2022.

More recently, they have struggled to find the same form, going out in the group stages of the other two staple events of the season, PGL Major Antwerp and now IEM Cologne.

As the CS:GO scene is about to head into the official summer tournament break, G2 have the next month to ponder their options, with their next event on the calendar being the BLAST Premier Fall Groups, starting on August 19.
