Remember American McGee’s Alice? It’s set to become a TV series, and David Hayter, voice of Solid Snake is set to write it.
No, you’ve not stumbled the Twilight Zone. Admittedly, we know David Hayter as the voice of Metal Gear Solid 1, 3 and 4’s protagonist, but he’s also an accomplished writer, producer and director. He was responsible for, amongst other things, penning the script to the original X-Men movie.
If you’ve never played American McGee’s Alice and its sequel, Madness Returns, you’ve missed out on a treat. The games are a gloomier take on the Alice in Wonderland story, more so even than even Tim Burton’s movies. Both titles are pre-GameSpew, but we got a kick out of them at the time, even though they proved occasionally frustrating.

Now, as revealed by the Hollywood Reporter and confirmed by Hayter himself, the TV series is set to channel their borderline grimdark take. It’s being developed for Radar Pictures, though it’s yet to be revealed which broadcaster will carry it. It’ll see Alice, who’s already been to Wonderland once, surviving a house-fire and discovering that the already odd place has taken a turn for the worse.
We’d expect each game to become its own series, or season, since there’s not necessarily enough material in the games for multiple seasons, but we’re eager to see how Hayter and Radar Pictures bring this video game nightmare to life.
