Amnesia: The Bunker has been delayed to May due to illness

Frictional Games announced on its twitter that Amnesia: The Bunker will be delayed. The independent developer is known for several popular survival horror titles in its 16-year history, including the Penumbra series and the standalone SOMA.

Its second series, Amnesia, began with Amnesia: The Dark Descent in 2010 to widespread acclaim. It currently has ‘Overwhelmingly Positive’ review status on Steam with 16,432 reviews. A sequel, Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs, followed with a release in 2013.

News broke of a third Amnesia installment with an announcement trailer in December 2022. Titled Amnesia: The Bunker, the third game in the series was scheduled for a March 2023 release date. However, the company has set a new release date for the game as May 16.

Amidst illness, Amnesia: The Bunker has been delayed

“The team here at Frictional has had a tough winter with a slew of illnesses that has affected the development,” the developer explains in a tweet. “It is important to us to do the game justice, and in light of these halts in production we don’t wish to rush the end product. The team is working hard to make The Bunker the best it can be, and a few more weeks will make the necessary difference,” the post goes on to reassure.

Frictional Games operates with an estimated team of 25 people. Given the lengthy nature of its games, a few weeks of delay is a small amount of time. In the meantime, series fans and aspiring players can watch the teaser trailers and speculate about the game. Amnesia is known for having detailed lore and concepts, and there is a lot the third installment could expand or build upon.

Amnesia: The Bunker will be available on Steam, the Epic Game Store, and GOG on May 16. It seems for now the contents of the bunker only exist in our nightmares.
