Among the Trolls is a folklore-filled survival game coming to Early Access this year

505 Games kicked off their inaugural game reveal showcase with Among the Trolls, a new survival adventure game coming from Finnish developer Forbidden Studios. Among the Trolls will be heading into Early Access in Q3 2022, with a roadmap already laid out as it builds toward full release in early 2024.

Among the Trolls is a first person survival action adventure game, in which you must survive a mystical Nordic forest where mythological creatures (which include trolls) rule over nature. You play as a Finnish American looking to reconnect with their grandparents after the passing of their parents, but find themselves dragged into this fantastical world and needing to survive instead.

Among the Trolls Building

The game will build on now well-established survival mechanics with resource gathering, combat, crafting and base building as you would expect. There’s also four player co-op built into the game. However, where it stands apart is in integrating Finnish folklore and the need to maintain a peaceful balance with the forest. Everything that you take from the environment, whether it’s a tree or an animal, needs to be offset with an offering made at a cupstone.

Developer Forbidden Studios was founded in 2019 by a group of veterans who’ve worked on Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim through to Vampire: The Masquerade, and got to work on Among the Trolls with their first announcement last year. It’s now been picked up by 505 Games as the publisher.

Among the Trolls Roadmap

Among the Trolls will head into Early Access in Q3 2022, with a six month cadence for major updates that expand the core gameplay, add new seasons and weather effects, and add to the overarching story.
