apEX: “I told ZywOo, if he’s not there we’re not going to qualify”

It hasn’t been a pretty showing from Vitality so far at PGL Major Stockholm, as they went down to the elimination series following the first day of action and faced issues early on in the do-or-die match against Evil Geniuses, conceding the opening map before putting their foot down.

After the first three rounds, we had the chance to talk to one of the veterans of the roster, Dan “apEX” Madesclaire, to find out what has been going on with the French team so far in Sweden.

The captain explained that it hasn’t been easy getting his two rookies to get over their Major jitters and that Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut was also far from his usual form in the opening two rounds, in which Vitality suffered close losses to Virtus.pro and Heroic.

“With two rookie guys, you don’t know what to expect,” apEX said. “And that wasn’t the ZywOo we know the first two games, and I told him, I was completely honest, if he’s not there we’re not gonna qualify.”

The No. 1 player of the last two years looked in better shape in Vitality‘s latest match against Evil Geniuses but is still yet to hit his peak level, something Vitality need if they wish to qualify for the playoffs, as apEX himself pointed out.

Make sure to watch the full interview to get the full scope of the 28-year-old’s thoughts on his team’s disappointing run so far and what they need to get back on their feet in time for the next round, where opponents such as Liquid, Astralis, and FaZe await.
