Embark Studios revealed in an official statement today that they have made the decision to delay ARC Raiders to 2023 as they want to use the extra time to expand the experience and use its full potential.

It was back at The Game Awards 2021 that Embark Studios officially revealed its debut title, ARC Raiders, as a cooperative-based free-to-play third-person shooter. The game was supposed to launch in 2022, but a recent statement from the developers reveals that they need more time to build this ambitious project.

According to the statement, Embark Studios need more time to make the game live up to its full potential, which leaves them with no choice other than to delay the game until next year. The studio didn’t make it clear which quarter of 2023 is currently a target for release. However, they confirmed that they will use the extra time to expand the experience.

To be honest, with the high amount of free-to-play games in the market at the moment, new games really need to be creative and expansive to satisfy fans. That being said, the competition for a cooperative-based free-to-play experience is less than that of PvP or PvPvE games at the moment.

ARC Raiders will probably need to go head to head with titles such as Dauntless, Destiny 2, and Fortnite’s Save The World mode to make a name for itself.

Thus far, we haven’t seen much from the game. The announcement trailer at The Game Awards 2021 only revealed a tiny bit of gameplay. Embark Studio did promise in the recent statement that they will share more information about the game when it enters the stage where select players would be able to play it and provide feedback. So, you can probably expect an opportunity for closed beta testing for ARC Raiders in the near future.

Embark Studio was formed by Patrick Soderlund, a veteran game developer who has been working at DICE under Electronic Arts for many years. The studio includes some other veteran developers who have been a part of DICE back in the time.
