Assassin’s Creed Writer Darby McDevitt Returns to Ubisoft After Just Seven Months Away

Veteran Assassin’s Creed writer Darby McDevitt has returned to Ubisoft and rejoined the Assassin’s Creed team. McDevitt left Ubisoft earlier this year and has since been focusing on his “desire to explore new ideas and unknown frontiers.” The result of this introspection was to return to Ubisoft and continue his journey as they work on Assassin’s Creed Infinity.

McDevitt has long been involved with the Assassin’s Creed franchise. At Ubisoft he was the Narrative Director on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and an unannounced project. He was also Lead Scriptwriter on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Assassin’s Creed Revelations, and the short film Assassin’s Creed Embers. He’s also worked on Assassin’s Creed Origins, Assassin’s Creed Unity, Assassin’s Creed: Bloodlines and others. His LinkedIn profile claims the project on which he is working is unannounced, although it’s most likely to be Assassin’s Creed Infinity, given his history at the company.

Not much is known about Assassin’s Creed Infinity, although it will “have a lot of narrative elements in it” and will apparently be exploring “new ideas and unknown frontiers.” A collaboration between Ubisoft Quebec and Ubisoft Montreal, rumors have claimed it will be an evolving online platform with multiple historical settings and the potential for more to be added in the future. McDevitt also said he had “never been more excited about the places we’re going and the stories I get to tell with this crew.”

In between his stints at Ubisoft, McDevitt spent seven months at iLLOGIKA as the Narrative Director on A Quiet Place. This is the upcoming title set in the universe of the John Krasinski movies of the same name. A Quiet Place promises to tell an original story rather than reprise the events of the two movies, although it will have “gameplay that captures the compelling suspense, emotion, and drama for which the series is famous.”

McDevitt asks everyone to “stay tuned” about what his return to Ubisoft working on the Assassin’s Creed franchise means.
