Barroi Leaves Boston, Accepts GM Role with Vancouver

On Friday August 26, the Boston Uprising made a surprise announcement that Assistant Coach Dennis “Barroi” Matz would be leaving the team. The sudden departure of Barroi left fans confused and wondering “what happened?”. However quickly after the initial announcement, their questions were answered. The Vancouver Titans announced that they had found a new General Manager and welcomed in Barroi to lead the team going forward. After coaching in the Overwatch League since 2019, the Vancouver Titans felt that Barroi was just the right person for the newly-absent role.

Barroi began his coaching career with the Toronto Defiant as an Analyst, spending two seasons with the organization. In 2021 Barroi joined the Uprising as an Assistant Coach. After coaching for the majority of his time in the Overwatch League, it appears as though Barroi is ready to take the next step.

The Vancouver Titans recently said goodbye to their General Manager Justin Hughes, creating a vacancy in a very important role in an organization that desperately needs a new direction. Since the release of the “Runaway Roster”, the Vancouver Titans have struggled to find success. The team has failed to find a core set of players that they want to build a franchise around. Vancouver is slowly turning things around in their 2022 campaign, thanks to the recent signing of Head Coach David “dpei” Pei. Vancouver still has a long ways to go before they are competing for the title, but Barroi could be the catalyst for a revived Titans team.
