Basics of farming chickens in Farming Simulator 22

The latest installment of the farming simulation video game series from Giants Software, Farming Simulator 22, is exploding in popularity. The new iteration of the classic farming franchise has already cracked 100,000 concurrent players on Steam, and shows no signs of slowing. But with so much to learn, new farmers might be confused. Our FS22 guides are meant to help with that.

You will need a lot more than just the tractor and this one tool though, you need tools to perform various tasks. You will need to be able to plow and seed the field, as well as to apply nutrients. So if you need to apply lime, or fertilize your fields, this is a great way to make use of some tractor weights as well. There are many other ways you can make money aside from just crops.

That’s how you can begin growing crops. There are also tons of mods you can install to tweak the game to your liking. Get out there and grow.  In this guide, we will teach you how to start farming chickens in Farming Simulator 22, and how to make a profit on their eggs.

Getting Started with Chickens

You need to start this effort by buying and constructing the chicken coop. When you’re ready to begin, open the main menu and select Build, then choose the Construction option. Click the Animals tab, and various options for animal pens will show up. You have two choices for chicken coops, one with a capacity for 30 chickens, and one that holds up to 160. Once it has been built, walk over and interact with it to open the Dealer menu for animals that can be placed in the pen.

You will notice that there are two different types of chicken. The cheaper ones take longer to lay eggs, whereas the more expensive ones will lay eggs ASAP. Weigh the cost of chickens and feed versus the price of eggs to be able to determine if the higher price is worth it.

After you place your chickens inside their pen, you need to make sure to feed them. This is where most dedicated players will dedicate a field to growing grain specifically to feed their various animals. it takes two months for chickens to lay eggs, and you will need to feed them during that time. It’s going to get pretty expensive if you have to buy all your feed from the store. Later in the game, it’s usually a good idea to buy a field just for feed grain.

Selling for a profit

The biggest way to make money from farming chickens in Farming Simulator 22 is to sell the Eggs. The eggs will stack up in cartons on a pallet, next to the enclosure the egg-layers are in. You just need to load the pallet up and take it to the store.

You can track the price of goods in the prices screen in the menu. There will be a listing in this screen of all the items you can raise and sell. Each item will have a listing for each in-game location that buys the commodity. The Buying listing details what price each store will buy your goods, and you can see if prices are going up or down based on the red and green marks. A green mark means the price recently rose at that location. Try to sell your crops and other foods at the highest prices to turn a profit.

All you need to do now is drive your goods to the location and sell them. Of course, you will often need to have trucks to transport the goods to market. Some products also need long-term storage like silos to keep them on the farm. Try not to invest too heavily in storage though, as you can end up losing money if prices drop before you go to market.
