Bassmaster Fishing 2022 Lets Me Appreciate Fishing Without Having to Buy Costly Gear

I used to go fishing when I was younger, and ultimately ended up messing around more than actually catching fish.

Now, however, in my older age, I feel like I’d appreciate it more. Back then, without the stresses of things like work and having a mortgage, it seemed like a waste of time. Now, I view it as a good chance to relax and unwind for a few hours, and enjoy the tranquillity of nature. But I’m not going to rush out to become an angler again, because one, the gear is expensive. And two, it takes up room. My house is clogged up with enough stuff as it is.

It’s thanks to games like Bassmaster Fishing 2022 that I can enjoy fishing again without having to fork out for gear, bait and licences, as well as avoiding having to make room for all that stuff in the garage. Sure, it’s not quite the same; you don’t get the fresh outdoor air, or the feeling of accomplishment you have when there’s actually a living fish you have caught in your hands. But it goes a long way to replicate the same experience.

After creating your character and completing a tutorial, Bassmaster Fishing 2022 pretty much leaves you to enjoy it how you wish. You can take it easy and visit any of the available locations at your leisure, or if you want something more structured you can embark on a career. Online multiplayer is available, too, allowing you to compete against others. Can you believe it even has what is essentially a Battle Royale mode? In Bassmaster Royale you’ll need to find a spot amongst all the other players, then catch enough fish to avoid multiple rounds of cullings.

Whichever mode you find yourself in, the action pretty much remains the same, only with varying levels of pressure applied upon you. You basically find the perfect fishing spot with your boat, prepare your gear, then cast. As you’re primarily aiming to catch bass, you’ll be using lures and attempting to replicate the motions of other creatures to attract prey. Then, when something takes the bait, you need to strike and battle to bring your catch home. In case you’re wondering, that’s the fun part; a war between you and the fish where you need to manage the tightness of the line and reel effectively to bring them in.

While your main target in Bassmaster Fishing 2022 is bass, you’ll also find plenty of other fishes in the waters it presents to you. There are rainbow trout, black crappie, chain pickerel, and a whole lot more. To become the best angler that you can be, you’ll need to buy a wide variety of gear from the in-game shop, create numerous loadouts, and effectively target the fish required to succeed. Just winging it might get you by, but it won’t take you to the top.

Available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC, Bassmaster Fishing 2022 perhaps isn’t the most exhaustive or accessible fishing game out there. It’s certainly one of the best looking though, and also one of the most enjoyable to play when you’ve got the basics down. So, whether you’re after a fishing game to simply wind down with, like myself, or challenge yourself, it’s worth picking up.
