Battlefield 2042 Portal Trailer Shows Off Some Of The Mash-Ups You Can Create

DICE has released a new trailer for Battlefield 2042‘s Portal mode, which is a mash-up mode that lets players combine elements of multiple Battlefield games into the same experience.

This new gameplay video shows off what it looks like when characters, elements, weapons, and items from different Battlefield games are mixed and matches. It’s pretty wild to see what it looks like when Battlefield 1942 combines with Battlefield 2042, for example. The possibilities for what you can create with Portal look to be very extensive.

As announced previously, Portal features maps, weapons, items, and characters from Battlefield 1942, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, and Battlefield 3, in addition to Battlefield 2042. Players can play existing modes or create their own custom modes using Portal’s “powerful” editing tools.

Fans are still eagerly waiting for Bad Company 3, and while it might not be on the horizon again, Battlefield 2042’s Portal model lets you revisit Bad Company 2 with some new twists.

The Portal mode will have a browser that allows players to seek out different game modes made by the community, and some will be classified as “featured” by the developer. Classic maps from past games like Arica Harbor, El Alamein, Battle of the Bulge, Valparaiso, Caspian Border, and Noshahr Canals have been “rebuilt from the ground up” using the Frostbite engine to help them look and feel new, with expanded destructed elements in some cases.

All XP and progression from Portal is shared with Battlefield 2042’s other modes, All-Out Warfare and Hazard Zone, too. For lots more on Battlefield Portal, check out DICE’s extensive and thorough rundown on the Battlefield website, which runs through many specifics.

Battlefield 2042 launches on November 19, but Game Pass and EA Play subscribers can start playing a 10-hour trial on November 12; that’s also when the game’s Gold and Ultimate Editions unlock. Unlike past games in the series, Battlefield 2042 has no single-player campaign.
