Become a cyber samurai in Blind Fate: Edo No Yami on Xbox

Can we all admit that samurai are the coolest warriors ever? Careful, calculating slashes of the blade, a calm and cool manner, not stopping at any ends to finish the job. Now a cyber samurai, well that’s just another level of swagger altogether, and it is a cyber samurai you will be controlling through the Edo era of Japan. Welcome Blind Fate: Edo No Yami.

Releasing today on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, and alike to the recently released cult classic Ghostrunner, Blind Fate: Edo No Yami sees our protagonist Yami awake after a terrible trauma, with a lack of body parts and the need for cybernetic replacements. The Shogunate clan rule over Japan, and as such will do anything in their power to restore Yami, their unwavering super soldier. And now you, as this super soldier, must ensure the protection of the Shogunate, albeit only using your senses, given a certain lack of eyes.

You see, whilst this could easily be dismissed as just another hack and slash title, Blind Fate is what it says on the tin. You are blind, and as such can form a simulation of the world around you by relying upon visual, auditory and thermal stimuli, going on to use your lightning quick abilities to dispose of a range of mechanised Japanese beasts, Horizon: Zero Dawn style. Swapping between different sensors is essential in order to gain the wider picture of your surroundings, ensuring you know where your foes are at all times.

And such simulations are beautiful, to say the least. The locales in which you do your slicing and dicing are neon-soaked, semi-realistic landscapes with a ton of colour that pops against the swooshes of your blade. Where the visuals really come to life is in the finishers that can be performed on your enemies; cinematic abilities that really emphasise the devastating power at Yami’s fingertips.

Features include:

  • — A world of data and lies The Mask of the Oni creates a simulation of the world around you, but tread carefully: old data will show you only deceiving echoes of the past.
  • — Swords sing unseen Even blind, you are unstoppable. Use different sensors to detect your enemies and identify their weak spots, then crush them with lightning speed.
  • — Robotic folktales of Japan Discover the story of dozens of robotic versions of Japanese folktale creatures! Find their weaknesses and destroy each one with a devastating finisher!
  • — Long-lost mechanical lore Your sensors pierce the curtain of the past. Use sound, smell and heat to explore the world, uncovering centuries of lore and guiding Yami on his vengeful, story-driven journey.

Blind Fate: Edo No Yami is perfect for fans of all things samurai and Japanese, and also for those looking for a quick hit of adrenaline-pumping combat. It can now be purchased on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One via the Xbox Store for £16.74. Alternatively, a PlayStation and PC release has already landed, with the game set to debut on Switch later this month.

Game Description:

It’s a new, dark and machine-filled Edo period, and the Shogunate rules over Japan with its just, but pitiless hand: you. You follow orders. You obey. You kill. Until your sight is taken from you, and you must learn to “feel” the world anew…
