Releasing today on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, and alike to the recently released cult classic Ghostrunner, Blind Fate: Edo No Yami sees our protagonist Yami awake after a terrible trauma, with a lack of body parts and the need for cybernetic replacements. The Shogunate clan rule over Japan, and as such will do anything in their power to restore Yami, their unwavering super soldier. And now you, as this super soldier, must ensure the protection of the Shogunate, albeit only using your senses, given a certain lack of eyes.

You see, whilst this could easily be dismissed as just another hack and slash title, Blind Fate is what it says on the tin. You are blind, and as such can form a simulation of the world around you by relying upon visual, auditory and thermal stimuli, going on to use your lightning quick abilities to dispose of a range of mechanised Japanese beasts, Horizon: Zero Dawn style. Swapping between different sensors is essential in order to gain the wider picture of your surroundings, ensuring you know where your foes are at all times.

And such simulations are beautiful, to say the least. The locales in which you do your slicing and dicing are neon-soaked, semi-realistic landscapes with a ton of colour that pops against the swooshes of your blade. Where the visuals really come to life is in the finishers that can be performed on your enemies; cinematic abilities that really emphasise the devastating power at Yami’s fingertips.
