Robinson was a prized recruit for Texas and had a productive career for the Longhorns. Now, he is entering the 2023 NFL Draft.

As a high school recruit, Robinson was a five-star recruit who left the state of Arizona to play for Texas. In his freshman season, he rushed for 703 yards, had 196 receiving yards and totaled six touchdowns. The Longhorns were able to go 7-3 with Robinson’s help. For the 2021 season, Robinson increased his production with 1,127 rushing yards, 295 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. Robinson’s play was great, but Texas limped to a five-win season. Robinson again showed growth in 2022, when he had 1,580 rushing yards, 314 receiving yards and 20 total touchdowns. He led Texas to an 8-5 record before he opted out of the Alamo Bowl.

Following the regular season, Robinson declared for the 2023 NFL Draft. He is currently projected to be a first-round pick.

Bijan Robinson Strengths

Robinson has a good build for an NFL running back. He stands 6-foot and 215 pounds, which should help him withstand the damage he will take at the NFL level. It looks like he can be a durable running back. Robinson uses his size to his advantage, as he has decent power and shows adequate contact balance.

His versatility will be something that NFL teams love. Robinson is able to run in between the tackles or on the outside. He also is a good receiver out of the backfield and even lined up at receiver at times. Robinson displays good route-running ability and has good hands. It will be hard for linebackers to cover him out of the backfield. He is best described as an offensive weapon and can be used much like Christian McCaffrey.

He shows great ability in short areas. Robinson is a patient runner, but acclerates well when he sees a hole. He displays good vision and is elusive, showing his ability to make defenders miss in tight windows. His jump cut helps him evade tacklers and find open space. He routinely gets out of the tight areas on the first or second level of the defense getting consistent gains.

Bijan Robinson Weaknesses

Robinson did not show good pass protection early in his career. It is something he has worked on and improved, but there are still some things he can improve. He could do a better job of recognizing where pressure is coming from and then square up his blocks to better protect the quarterback.

It isn’t easy finding weaknesses with Robinson, but he could use his size better as a runner. He has decent contact balance and power, but if he committed to it, he could run through contact and dole out punishment as the ball carrier. Doing that could wear down defenses, but also help diversify his game a little bit more.

While he has very good speed, it isn’t an elite trait. He can break off long runs, but there are times when he is caught. He likely will run a very solid 40-yard dash time, but it will be a little shy of the top running backs in the class.
