Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition didn’t have the smoothest launch. Hardcore fans of the original release found the updated version to be a step back in many ways. With that said, a recent patch for Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition introduces plenty of fixes and additions that improve the experience.
Even after this update, Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition has far to go. And to the credit of Nightdive Studios, it understands that. In the patch notes for the upcoming update, the developer also includes additions to come in the next patch. Hopefully, the game can continue to improve and eventually surpass the original title.

The first patch for Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition covers over 20 fixes and additions. Most of the problems addressed seem to tackle graphical errors, like a green flicker that occurred during transitions. The patch also addressed problems where the fog wouldn’t render correctly. Some changes were also made to the crosshair to make it easier to tell its position on the screen.
Then there are some fixes that address core problems with Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition. These include adding in missing audio and text localization. Various problems affecting the subtitles in multiple instances should be fine now as well. There are also options to disable the widescreen borders and to change the in-game brightness.
All in all, these are good changes and do improve the overall experience. Again though, it’s clear that the game still needs work. It’s also disappointing to see the state of Blade Runner: Enhanced Edition in general. Blade Runner is a classic game that a lot of people have a soft spot for, so it’s a shame that this is the product they’re getting.
It’s good to see that Nightdive Studios is committed to resolving these problems. The next patch promises to make improvements to the user interface and controls.
