Boise State Outlook

Senior forward Abu Kigab has been contributing in many ways for Boise State this season. He is averaging 14.2 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.5 steals a game.

However, against Fresno State, Boise State showed it can win without a big scoring game from Kigab. He had a season-low six points on 3-of-7 shooting but still made an impact with eight rebounds and six assists.

Senior guard Marcus Shaver Jr. picked up some of the scoring slack with 18 points. He drained four three-pointers.

Shaver is second on the team with a 12.9 scoring average and has been in double figures in 12 of 13 games this season.

Senior guard Emmanuel Akot and senior forward Mladen Armus both had 12 points with Armus also pulling down six rebounds. Akot is averaging 11.1 points and 3.1 assists.

Boise State shot 55.6% (25 of 45) and drained 9 of 17 (47.4%) from distance. The Broncos also held a 33-20 advantage in rebounds, which helped offset 15 turnovers.

Boise State is 18th in the nation in KenPom’s adjusted defensive efficiency, allowing 92.5 points per 100 possessions.

Nevada Outlook

Nevada has plenty of scorers as four players are averaging double figures, led by junior guard Grant Sherfield at 18.8 points a game.

Sherfield also stuffs the stat sheet in other areas, averaging 6.6 assists and 4.9 rebounds. In the win over New Mexico, Sherfield had his second double-double of the season when he finished with 10 points and 10 assists.

Senior guard Desmond Cambridge Jr. is also having a fine season with averages of 17.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.7 steals. He scored a team-high 18 points on New Year’s Day despite having an awful shooting game.

Cambridge made just 6 of 20 field goal attempts and was 1 for 11 on three-pointers yet scored in double figures for the 11th time in 12 games this season. As a team, Boise State shot 26.1% (6 of 23) on threes.

Sherfield was one of three Wolf Pack players with double-doubles against New Mexico.

Junior forward Warren Washington turned in a 12-point, 11-rebound performance with four blocked shots and three assists. Junior center Will Baker also had 12 points 11 rebounds. It was the second double-double of the season for Washington and first for Baker.

Baker is scoring 11.8 points and grabbing 5.1 rebounds a game. Washington is averaging 11.4 points, 7.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.

Sophomore forward Tre Coleman added a season-high 13 points, just his second game in double digits in 2021-22.

Nevada held New Mexico to 23 of 64 (35.9%) from the field. The Lobos also committed 17 turnovers.

Boise State vs Nevada Prediction

Nevada has won three straight games in the series, including 89-82 in last year’s Mountain West Tournament in Las Vegas. Cambridge led the way with 31 points, Sherfield scored 26 points and Washington had 18 points and 11 rebounds.

Nevada has also won 11 of the last 12 games against Boise State. While it is hard to tell how exactly the teams will look coming off so much time off, Boise State has the type of veteran team equipped to handle distractions.
