I can honestly say I’ve lost track as to how many times the original Sonic The Hedgehog games have been released. Still, the blue blur was born in the same year as me so I’m not about to stop getting excited about his new exploits just yet.
Released on the cheeky hog’s very own birthday, Sonic Origins has arrived in digital form only, bringing the classic titles, Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD to current-gen platforms. These come with remastered visuals, added features, new modes and more.
You can now play as Sonic, Tails and Knuckles across each game, as well as switching between Classic and Anniversary modes to please both returning fans and first time players. Brand new opening and ending animations help to refresh these classics along with each being presented in a revamped fullscreen resolution. Stick to the well known game over system or choose unlimited lives, earn medallions by completing in game missions and go shopping for new content in the vault.
This love letter to the genesis of Mario’s platforming rival will give players the opportunity to hit the loops in Green Hill Zone, avoid drowning in Chemical Plant Zone and stomp Dr. Eggman all over again. Whether you are revisiting familiar experiences or spin dashing into these adventures for the very first time, Sonic Origins aims to offer something for everyone.

Players can purchase both digital standard and digital deluxe versions of the game, with the latter including extra tracks, missions and more. Premium and Classic Sound Packs are also available for purchase separately. The Standard Edition will set you back £32.99, whilst the Deluxe Edition costs a tad more, £36.98 – you are getting the Premium Fun Pack and Classic Music Pack thrown in with that though.
