Brawlhalla Release Date

This game has been out since April 2014, when it was first shown at PAX East, where it went into Alpha and then open beta in November 2015.

Almost a year later, in March 2018, Blue Mammoth (game developer/publisher) was acquired by Ubisoft. That explains why you can see Rayman and two other franchise characters as playable in-game legends.

10 Brawlhalla Beginners Guide (Tips & Tricks)

1) Optimize Keybinds & Settings: While there are many guides out there that focus on settings, our tip is to find your control and key binding configuration (the one that serves you best). Just experiment and understand each person has its playstyle.

2) Master One Weapon Style: Each weapon possesses different combos and different legends have unique combos with specific weapons.

3) Master One Legend: It is good to know what are the skills of each legend to block opponent skills during a match, but it’s even better to stick to one legend that to you the most (weapons, stats, or looks) and learn its combos.

4) Distinguish: It’s so easy to lose yourself during a match and fall due to this confusion. Some people recommend using bright-colored skins but it’s better to go into settings and select to put a sticky arrow or name above your legend’s head.

5) Count your jumps: Each player gets a total of 4 jumps (three normal and an attack one). And they can be replaced with each other. But being knocked off counts as one. However, after making those jumps, you can also use your dodge button to dash which can often allow you to hit a wall that will reset your available jumps.

6) Dodge More: You can use it to dash and hit a wall to reset jumps, avoid an attack and throwable item/weapon, or boost your combos. Many newbies still don’t know about the dodge action or just don’t use it at all.

7) Less Heavy Attacks; More Light: Failing a heavy attack is the fastest/easiest way to get punished by the enemy.

8) Map Control: You can positional advantage and control high and low-ground areas, as well as weapon spawns to force your opponent to predictably approach you. This applies to “edge-guarding” (to poke your opponent that has fallen off the stage).

9) Don’t Panic: If you’re on the other side of the spectrum and have fallen for any reason, then you must stay calm. Players tend to forget how many jumps they have left and make other mistakes while being desperate. Practicing recovery also helps.

10) Keep Practicing and Learning: Yes, that’s not a secret. You already know that you’ll get more knowledgeable and skillful the more you play. But it’s always good to re-think it.

Of course, playing a lot isn’t the only way to get better at Brawlhalla. Sometimes, players also make use of seemingly “overpowered” legends.

Brawlhalla Level Rewards

In Brawlhalla, both your account and Legends can be leveled up by playing games. You’ll obtain Experience Points (XP) after every match (whether you win or lose) and the amount is dependable on the duration/performance on it.

Account Levels: Each Brawlhalla player has an account that they can level up. At each account level, the player earns Coin Gold. The account level caps at level 100.

There are achievements associated with reaching account levels 10, 20, 30, and 40.

Legend’s Levels: To earn experience for a Legend, the player must use them in a match, and will receive several experience points for that specific Legend at the end of the match.

When you level up a legend you can get a reward. You can get rewards by leveling up a legend until level 20. After that, leveling up legends gives only gold.

The Rewards:
A) Colors
B) Gold
C) Stances

The amount of gold earned when you level up always stays the same at 120.

The colors you can earn are:

Blue
Yellow
Green
Brown
Orange
Purple
Cyan
Sunset (Level 14)
Gray (Level 16)
Pink (Level 18)
Red (Level 20)

The first 7 colors are unlocked at different levels depending on the legend (shown down below) while the last 4 colors, sunset, gray, pink, and red, are always unlocked at that level no matter the legend.

By leveling up, you can also unlock special colors that have to be bought with gold.

Skyforged (Level 5 on a specific character, needs to be bought with 2500 Glory),
Goldforged (Level 5 on a specific character, needs Skyforged to be bought first, needs to be bought with 3750 Glory),
White (Level 10 on a specific character, needs to be bought from the shop for 10k gold),
Black (Level 25 on a specific character, needs to be bought from the shop for 25k gold).

Currently, Brawlhalla has 24 maps available to play in.

Brawlhalla Maps

Maps (previously called Realms) refer to the myriad stages and locations where the battles of Brawlhalla are fought. Maps can come in three sizes: small, standard, and big. Each map has a standard-sized variant, while only certain maps have small, big, or both variants. Typically, smaller maps are intended for 1v1 and larger maps are intended for free-for-all matches, however, this is different per map.

In Custom Online lobbies, players can vote for what map they want to play. Maps are selected randomly in Casual Matchmaking and Ranked, but the player has the option to ban a single map from play.

This is all very important to know, because Brawlhalla’s competitive nature favors you if you know a lot of unnoticed details about the game and its mechanics.

Brawlhalla Ranks/Ranked Explained

As with almost every other game with “Ranked mode” available, you win or lose ELO as you win or lose matches. This number represents your skill level and helps the matchmaking system to put you against players as capable as you. You can either play 3-stock 1v1 or 2v2.

Maps are selected randomly (from a reduced set) and progress is divided into seasons that last 13 weeks each. It ends with a reset that slightly reduces all player’s Elo ratings. You’ll get a sum of “Glory” according to the Elo points you achieved that season.

Glory: currency to purchase “Skyforged” and “Goldforged” weapon skins and colors. You can redeem them in the “Ranked” section of the store.

What are the Ranks in Brawlhalla?

At the moment there are 6 ranks in the game: Tin, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond.

Those who reach Gold, Platinum, and Diamond ranks in a season get the Gold, Platinum, and Diamond loading frames respectively.

Do Brawlhalla Esports Exist?

The Brawlhalla competitive scene started early (in closed beta launch) as every other one before: with minor events organized by the community. Then Blue Mammoth Games dipped in their huge legs and formed the Brawlhalla Championship Series in May 2016.

It consisted of 21 weeks of 1v1 and 2v2 online tournaments held in NA and EU servers since June 18 of that year, with a $1,000 prize pool divided among the top eight. Winners gained points to classify for the first World Championship built around the “Expo” (BCX).

The Brawlhalla Circuit followed in early 2017. These official tournaments were made as a qualifier for the 32-player, $100,000 Brawlhalla World Championship in November of that year.

Blue Mammoth Games held more international tournaments (4 official seasonal championships, 5 in-person, and another World Championship in Atlanta) in 2018.

2019 was the year where the “Mid Season Championship” and Brawlhalla Pro Series (for NA and EU) appeared. And despite the hazard, 2020 continued with online-focused events.

Thankfully in 2021, Blue Mammoth keeps proving its esports capacities. Several tournaments were held already: Winter Championship and NA + EU Spring Seasons!
