Buffalo Bills at N.Y. Jets: NFL Week 10 Betting Preview

The New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills are natural candidates for a rivalry, as they have played in the same division for their entire time in the league and occupy the same state. However, they have never been competitive at the same time, and so there are not many epic games between the two teams. They have played 120 times, with the Bills winning 65 and the Jets winning 55. The Jets have won the last two meetings, having swept the Jets in 2020. This time around, the Bills are seen as AFC contenders but have scuffled a bit, with a record of 5-3. Two of those losses, the Week 1 setback against PIttsburgh and last week’s embarrassment in Jacksonville, have Bills fans scratching their heads. The Jets (2-6) were able to take down the Cincinnati Bengals two weeks ago but fell at Indianapolis on Thursday — although they put up 30 points in defeat despite not having backup quarterback Mike White available and instead relying on third-stringer Josh Johnson. Can the Bills revert to contender form, or will the Jets post another upset? Their other win has come against Tennessee this season.

Why should you bet on the Bills?

Buffalo went to Jacksonville as 14 ½-point favorites but ended up losing, 9-6. Josh Allen went 31 of 47 for 267 yards, but he did not throw a touchdown pass. Instead, he had a pair of picks and took four sacks, losing a fumble as well. He did lead the team in rushing with 50 yards, and he found Stefon Diggs six times for 85 yards. However, Allen tried to force the ball down the field too many times instead of taking what the Jaguars’ defense would allow. Normally, he does not make that type of mistake over and over, and he should be back to his normal elite level against the Jets.

Dawson Knox (fractured hand) was back at practice on Wednesday and should play against the Jets. He has been a significant part of the pass attack. Zach Moss had a concussion against the Jaguars and remains questionable. Even after that six-point nightmare in Jacksonville, Buffalo still averages 29.4 points per game, among the top five teams in the league. On defense, the Bills lead the NFL in fewest points permitted per game (14.8) and in fewest passing yards permitted. The defense was outstanding against Jacksonville and will have similar success against the Jets.

Why should you put your money on the Jets?

The Jets put up 30 points against the Colts last week but still could not stay within the 10-point spread, as their defense was dismantled. They sacked Carson Wentz once but permitted three passing touchdowns and two rushing scores, as Jonathan Taylor just ran right over them for 172 yards. Mike White had a right forearm injury early in the game and had to leave, but Josh Johnson came on and threw for 317 yards and three scores, along with an interception. Elijah Moore had a huge game, catching seven balls for 84 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

White is expected to start again in relief of the injured Zach Wilson. The last two weeks, the Jets’ scoring has increased, but they still only average 18.0 points per game. The defense permits 31.4 points per game, which is an ugly average differential. If you like the Jets to cover here, you see them taking advantage of inconsistency remaining from last week’s loss.

Final Score and Betting Prediction

I see Buffalo bouncing back and taking care of business against a divisional opponent. The Jets might mount a few lengthy drives, but the Bills should take charge. I predict a 34-13 Bills win.
