Quintana, 33, is an 11-year veteran who has pitched for the White Sox, Cubs, Angels, Giants and Pirates in his career. The lefty has a 3-5 record with a 3.5 ERA this season. He has a 3.81 career ERA.
The Cardinals are 54-48 this season and the acquisition of Quintana helps them in their pursuit to make the playoffs. St. Louis has a team ERA of 3.84, so Quintana adds another arm to a good stock of pitchers already there.
There are no reports on the return the Pirates will be receiving for Quintana at this time. The Pirates are rebuilding, as they currently sit in last place in the National League Central.
