CDL 2022 Major 1 Qualifiers – Day 2 Recap

Here’s everything that went down in the second day of CDL 2022.

The Call of Duty League Major 1 qualifiers continued last night with the second day of matches. Here’s a recap of every map from yesterday.

Atlanta FaZe 3-2 Paris Legion

Atlanta FaZe came out slow in this series, and they’ll need to improve heading into the rest of the Major 1 qualifiers. A 250-218 Gavutu Hardpoint win for Paris Legion saw Temp dominate on the second AR role with a 1.67 K/D, giving Legion a 1-0 lead in the series.

Atlanta FaZe weren’t going down easy, and a 6-3 Map 2 victory showed this. Cellium showed his Search and Destroy prowess once again, putting up 13 kills and a 3.25 K/D to dominate the map, and tie the series. We headed back to Gavutu for Control, and here the Paris Legion came out on top once again. Another excellent map from Temp saw Paris regain the series lead.

Back to back maps from Atlanta FaZe resulted in them winning the series 3-2. First was a slay heavy hardpoint where FaZe won Tuscan 250-174 with ease. This was followed by a 6-1 SnD to finish it off, with all players going positive. While this wasn’t a pretty series,FaZe got over the line, and that’s what makes a championship winning roster.

London Royal Ravens 3-2 OpTic Texas

We saw Bocage Hardpoint finish due to the game clock for the first time this season in map one of this series with a 188-163 victory. Gismo popped multiple three pieces in this map, while Zer0 also gained full streaks. However, OpTic secured more of the time, and therefore the map.

A tightly contested SnD saw OpTic take a 2-0 lead in the series in a round 11 clutch from iLLeY and Scump. This duo were constantly working together in this map, and their teamwork was crucial in the map win. The Royal Ravens began the road to a reverse sweep with a well played 3-1 Tuscan Control win. Gismo was dominant in the respawns again, going 31-18 and going on multiple streaks once again to start the comeback.

With the momentum swinging in the favour of London, they forced a game five by putting OpTic in the blender in Berlin Hardpoint. While Gismo impressed once again, he had some help from fellow rookie Nastie who put up 27 kills and a 1.80 K/D, seeing London tie the series.

The London Royal Ravens closed out the reverse sweep with a round 11 victory. While being down 4-2, the Ravens stepped up pace with the SMG duo of Gismo and Afro dropping 12 and 11 kills respectively. This sees London go 2-0 in the qualifiers, and look great at the start of this season.

Seattle Surge continued their undefeated run on Tuscan Hardpoint extending their record to 4-0. Sib dominated more than ever, going 36-17 in map one to give Surge a 1-0 lead in the series. Surge steamrolled through Ultra in map two, winning 6-1 and outslaying them by 12 kills, giving themselves a 2-0 series lead and a great chance for revenge for the Kickoff Classic.

Toronto Ultra narrowly survived in map three to extend the series. A little luck in the tiebreaker saw them secure the favorable defensive side for round five, and a closely contested round ended with an Ultra win, and a map four. Ultra took another step closer to a reverse sweep with a dominant Berlin Hardpoint against Seattle once again. A 250-142 wasn’t as big of a win as they got in the Kickoff Classic final, but it is undoubtedly great momentum for game five.

Seattle Surge shut down the reverse sweep with a ninja defuse in round 11 of map five to win the series. Accuracy hopped on the bomb and defused, getting it done with just a split second left before Ultra checked. 

The LA Guerrillas shocked a lot of CDL fans with their victory over the New York Subliners here. Asim was extremely dominant, dropping 108 kills over the whole series, and putting up a 1.40 K/D. Not only was the whole series impressive from LAG, they also executed the first 6-0 sweep in SnD, winning map 2 in extraordinary fashion.

The Guerrillas may definitely be a team to watch, but this says more about NYSL’s issues, than LAG’s brilliance.
