Code S RO20 – RagnaroK and Creator advance to RO10

(Wiki)RagnaroK and (Wiki)Creator continued to enjoy their career years in the GSL, as both players advanced to the RO10 for the third season straight.

Creator began his initial series against (Wiki)soO with a peculiar Glaive Adept + DT-drop combo, which caught the the Zerg completely off guard and led to a quick GG. Things got a bit hairy for Creator in game two after his Disruptor drop and follow-up attacks failed, leading to the infrequent scenario where soO wins a PvZ in the late-game. However, Creator was able to take the early lead once more in game three, this time with 2-Stargate Phoenixes, and he successfully snowballed his way to a win.

The other initial match between RagnaroK and (Wiki)Ryung saw the Alpha X Zerg take a seemingly rocky road to a 2-0 victory. In both games, Ryung established a strong mid/late-game position for himself, but still lost due to RagnaroK’s superior ability in actual combat. Later in his interviews, RagnaroK would say that he was very confident against Ryung if the games went long, and he had played the early phases out safely as a result.

RagnaroK then went on to 2-1 Creator in the winners’ match to advance to the RO10 in first place from the group. Game one went Creator’s way, as his 6-Gate Glaive-Adepts inflicted enough early damage for him to win with second attack later on. However, Creator’s attempt at a 2-base Blink-Stalker all-in in game two completely fell apart, as he was severly delayed by a Speedling poke from RagnaroK. After a very solid defensive stand, RagnaroK collected the GG. Creator went for another form of early aggression in game three, loading up for an Immortal-Zealot all-in. However, another early Zergling poke from RagnaroK gave him enough information to detect the build, and he countered it with Banelings for the 2-1 victory.

Alas, Ryung had the poor luck of playing his weak match-up of TvZ twice in a day, and he left the group without a victory. His first loss to soO in the losers’ match was fairly straight forward, with soO rolling over him with Muta-Ling-Bane. Ryung had a chance to steal a map with a 4-Barracks proxy all-in in game two, but he ended up losing after giving soO a little too much time.

That earned soO a chance to rematch Creator for a RO10 spot, but again he couldn’t get past the Season 1 runner-up. Game one saw Creator play an Oracle opener into a hasty Gateway unit timing at around the 7:00 mark, which was enough to overwhelm an underprepared soO. Creator then took game two in more mundane fashion, assembling a mid-game force with Archon-Immortal support to force another surrender out of soO.

Due to Solar’s travel from TSL9, Group E will be pushed back to Thursday of next week. Thus, Code S continues on Thursday, Sep 08 9:30am GMT (GMT+00:00), with Dark, Prince, Solar, and Cure playing in Group E.
