College Football Playoff Bracketology: Selection Day

Each week teams will be fighting for position in an effort to make the College Football Playoff. The teams will be ranked each week, but what matters most is who they have played and beaten already on the field. Preseason rankings will not be taken into consideration here. Here is College Football Playoff Bracketology: Selection Day.

CFP Four

1. Georgia Bulldogs (13-0)

Georgia left no doubt who the top seed would be when they won the SEC Championship over LSU after being ranked in the top spot for most of the year.

2. Michigan Wolverines (13-0)

The Wolverines won the Big Ten Championship over Purdue and will likely stay in the second spot in the CFP rankings.

3. TCU Horned Frogs (12-1)

TCU lost the Big 12 Championship, but still has a case worthy of being in the College Football Playoff. They will likely be third to prevent an Ohio State-Michigan rematch.

4. Ohio State Buckeyes (11-1)

While the Buckeyes were off this weekend, they have better wins than other contenders for the fourth spot and only have one loss. There has never been a team with more than one loss in the CFP.

First Four Out

5. Alabama Crimson Tide (10-2)

Alabama got close to the playoff, but won’t quite get there. The two losses and lack of big wins will hold them back.

6. Tennessee Volunteers (10-2)

Tennessee should arguably be ranked higher than Alabama, but the committee ranked them behind the Crimson Tide last week, so it will probably stay that way.

7. USC Trojans (11-2)

USC lost their chance at a CFP appearance with a loss to Utah in the Rose Bowl. They are still in play for a New Year’s Six Bowl Game.

8. Kansas State Wildcats (10-3)

Kansas State pulled off an upset over TCU in the Big 12 Championship Game in a rematch. They locked up a spot in the Sugar Bowl with the win.

Next Four Out

9. Clemson Tigers (11-2)

Clemson defeated UNC in the ACC Championship and locked up a spot in the Orange Bowl in the process.

10. Utah Utes (10-3)

The Utes pulled off the upset in the Pac-12 Championship and are now headed to the Rose Bowl.

11. Penn State Nittany Lions (10-2)

Penn State didn’t play this weekend, but drop in the rankings with some upsets happening in the conference championship games.

12. Washington Huskies (10-2)

Washington holds on to the 12th spot after not playing this weekend.
