The Dallas Cowboys have found a replacement piece for their offensive line. Jason Peters has signed with the Cowboys to help deal with the loss of their left tackle, Tyron Smith. The exact details of the deal are unknown at time of writing, but it is very likely a one-year contract.
The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported the news via Twitter on Monday.
Peters went undrafted in the 2004 NFL Draft, but was signed by the Buffalo Bills in the same year. He played there for five seasons before signing with the Eagles, where he became a cornerstone of the franchise. He anchored the Eagles offensive line for 12 seasons, including their 2017-2018 team that won the Super Bowl.
After Peters’ Hall of Fame stint with the Eagles, he played last season with the Chicago Bears, but stayed for only one year. The 40-year-old left tackle will now join the Cowboys for what could be his last NFL season. After Smith’s injury, the team needed a veteran lineman to protect Dak Prescott, and Peters fits the bill and won’t garner an expensive, long-term deal.
