CSGO: 5 Things You Must Do While Using an AWP

CSGO: 5 Things You Must Do While Using an AWP

The AWP has plenty of fans in CSGO, here’s 5 things you should absolutely do when using the weapon.

Everyone knows that the CSGO AWP player is crucial for his team. This is the most potent weapon in the game and the only thing that can one-shot a target from a long-range, even if you don’t land a headshot.

Unsurprisingly, the AWP has many fans among casual players, so they often look up to the best in the world and try to mimic what they do. This is one of the reasons why players like s1mple are so popular.

Learning how to be a proper AWP player takes time, and it is not as easy as it seems. However, once you learn the steps you have to do, you will notice a significant difference in your gameplay. Without further ado, here are a few things you should be aware of.

Try NOT to take close-range fights

As an AWPer, the best thing that can happen to you is to take part in long-range fights where the enemies use guns like the AK-47 or M4A4 against you. People in this situation can easily score kills without putting themselves at risk. Sadly, players, who know how to play CSGO won’t do that.

Instead of trying to kill you from a distance, players will use nades and other things to try and come as close to you as possible. Once this happens, you can’t do much because the AWP is inefficient at a close range. In fact, the best thing that you can do is land a kill on one target because the other ones will almost always kill you.

So, to avoid the risk of dying and not killing anyone, you should not take close-range fights unless they’re unavoidable. If you notice that your opponents are missing, you should position yourself in a way that won’t allow them to surprise you. In other words, avoid staying in chokepoints where you won’t be able to do anything

Ideally, your current position should allow you to retreat if you miss your shots

Every CSGO AWPer wants to land all of his shots, but this is often easier said than done. In fact, even the likes of s1mple, kennyS, and other top-tier CSGO players often miss their shots, so this will happen to you sooner or later.

Missing a shot sucks because you won’t land a kill, but it also means that your opponents will know your current position. As you can imagine, if you don’t know where to go, you will become an easy target because they will use nades and kill you immediately.

If you want to avoid this from happening, you should try to position yourself in a way that will allow you to retreat if you miss a shot. Generally speaking, you should not repeek if you know that the enemy has an AWPer, so simply fall back and find a new position that will allow you to score a kill.

Sadly, there are situations where you won’t be able to fall back because the enemies already have control over a specific part of the map. If that’s the case, you should focus on making the most and killing as many people as possible.

Do not go for the crazy plays just to prove your skill

Even though watching the best CSGO AWP players will help you improve, there are a couple of crucial things you need to remember. One of them is the fact that you should not try to mimic all of their crazy plays just to show off your skill. In fact, it is much better to focus on what you’re good at and make the most of it.

We’ve seen many examples over the years of outstanding AWP players who can’t show their prowess because they try to land fancy no scopes or 180 degrees kills. So, instead of wasting your time doing fancy things, focus on the shots you can take. Sure, it might seem a bit boring at first, but you will almost always be more successful doing this, which is exactly what you need.

1 for 1 trades as an AWPer are not worth it

Generally speaking, the so-called 1-for-1 trades are never good for the CT side because it is harder to defend a given bombsite when you have fewer players on your team. Consequently, most T players are ok when they trade a kill with their opponents.

However, there are some situations where the 1 for 1 trades are not worth it, and one of them is when you’re using an AWP. You may think that landing a kill an enemy and dying after that will help your team, but in reality, this won’t be the case. Unless you have someone close to you that can pick up the Green Gun right away, your team will lose their AWPer, which will give your opponents a considerable advantage.

To avoid these kinds of trade-offs, you need to have really good positioning and know when to repeak. Most players make mistakes that often cost them their lives.

If you are on the T side, use the scope earlier or wait until you have a clear shot

One of the things that some CSGO players aren’t aware of is that the AWP’s scope actually makes a noise. In other words, the enemies focused on the game will pay attention to it and hear you when you’re using it. Needless to say, this will ruin your position and will most likely result in losing the round.

Even though this doesn’t matter as much when you’re on the CT side (unless you are in a 1vx situation), it makes a huge difference as Ts. In many situations, the Ts make a slow push towards and side, and they have an AWPer with them. If you happen to be that guy, you should use your scope before getting close or trying.

Alternatively, you can try to quickly scope someone, but don’t use your scope to look for enemies because it will make noise, and the CTs will hear it.
