Cyberpunk 2077 updates and free DLC quietly got delayed until next year

In the beginning, developer CD Projekt Red had a vision for Cyberpunk 2077‘s post-launch content plans. Free DLC will fill the gaps between Witcher-like expansions, along with regular updates. A lot of that got thrown out the window when Cyberpunk 2077 launched, and and there was a scramble just to fix the game — seen by many as a buggy mess. The developer has promised more fixes and content this year, but apparently something changed. CD Projekt Red has apparently, and silently, delayed free DLC and update plans for Cyberpunk 2077 until 2022.

Yesterday, the company quietly updated the Cyberpunk 2077 roadmap. As reported by PCGamesN, the original roadmap noted that the content and updates were heading to the game this year. Naturally, the outlet had to use the Wayback Machine showing how it looked last week. Today, however, “updates, improvements, and free DLCs” are now marked as coming in 2022. PCGamesN does note that CD Projekt Red shifted its agenda to bring next-gen updates to The Witcher 3 and console versions of Cyberpunk 2077 last week. They were originally scheduled to drop this year as well. There’s a good chance that the free DLC and updates for Cyberpunk 2077 got delayed as part of the aforementioned plans.

It’s not that we haven’t gotten anything for the game, oh no. The developer has been releasing updates, fixing dry roads and broken quests. Cyberpunk 2077 got its first free DLC back in August, which included new cosmetic items for V and Johnny Silverhand. That update also made the GPS better, which is nice indeed.

Cyberpunk 2077 free dlc update delayed

Talk to the (silver) hand

Slowly, but surely, CD Project Red is finishing the development of Cyberpunk 2077. According to the new roadmap, it appears the delayed free DLC and updates for Cyberpunk 2077 should land in early 2022. The timeframe looks like Q1, which is January to the end of March. Of course, that could be some well wishing on the developer’s part. Cyberpunk 2077 took roughly nine years of development time. It’s apropos that additional content is also going to take a while.
