Davidson’s Bob McKillop Retires After 33 Seasons

Davidson head basketball coach Bob McKillop is retiring from coaching he announced on Friday.

McKillop, 71, has coached the Wildcats for 33 seasons, starting all the way back in 1989. He has compiled a record of 634-380 during his coaching career. McKillop has the most wins in school history.

He was named the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 2021-22 and was the NABC Coach of the Year in 2007-2008. With him at the helm, Davidson was able to make 10 NCAA Tournaments. His most notable accomplishment was leading the 2007-2008 team to the Elite Eight with the help of star guard, Stephen Curry.

The Wildcats went 27-7 during the 2021-2022 season and will be turning the program’s reins over to Matt McKillop, Bob’s son. This will be his first head coaching job.

Matt graduated from Davidson in 2006 and has been on the Davidson staff since 2008 after serving some time with Emory University. In 2016 he was promoted to associate head coach.
