Dead Island 2 Will Reportedly Be Re-Revealed Later This Year

Over eight years have passed since Dead Island 2 was announced at E3, and there’s still no sign of life. But, according to industry insider Tom Henderson, a re-reveal is reportedly planned to take place later this year.

According to Henderson’s anonymous source, a reveal at The Game Awards “would make a lot of sense”. The Game Awards are currently scheduled to take place on Friday, December 9th, which means the re-reveal could still be four months away.

The unknown source goes on to reveal multiple other details about the upcoming sequel, stating that it will have a big focus on cooperative gameplay, as well as introducing 5-6 new characters to the series. Alongside these details, the source also claimed that Dead Island 2 would take place across several different locations, including Hollywood and San Francisco.

The original Dead Island, which was developed by Techland, was released in 2011 and quickly became one of the most popular Zombie-themed action games in history. But, after the huge success of Techland’s other Zombie title, Dying Light, it appears as though Dead Island took a back seat.

Dead Island 2’s rocky development has been put down to the multiple changes in development studios. Although the series was created by Techland, Yager Development was originally set to helm the sequel, before being passed through multiple other studios over the years. Currently, Dambuster Studios, a subsidiary of Deep Silver, are in charge of development. Dambuster Studios was founded back in 2014 to take charge of 2016’s Homefront: The Revolution, after Crytek UK closed their doors.

Although news on Dead Island 2 has been quiet for a while now, Deep Silver’s parent company, Embracer Group, did suggest earlier this year that the title would be launching by the end of the company’s next fiscal year, which comes to an end on March 31st, 2023. Should this be the case, a re-reveal by the end of this year would make a lot of sense. Of course, it’s still important to take these details with a pinch of salt until an official announcement is made by the developers.

In other gaming rumors, a new report from Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier revealed that Grand Theft Auto 6 would feature a female protagonist, and even return to a fictional version of Miami.
