Dino Crisis returns to PlayStation as PS Plus tease spotted

Dino Crisis could be set for a big return on PlayStation, joining the many classic games that will soon be available via the revamped PS Plus.

The sighting comes via Twitter user DarkClong who shared the image below, a screenshot reportedly capturing an ad from the Hong Kong version of the PlayStation Store.

Sony has yet to officially confirm Dino Crisis as part of its PS1 game lineup for when PlayStation Plus relaunches in June. However, out of the games revealed so far, there’s still plenty of room for more reveals in the coming days and weeks, especially if Sony is truly serious about building a huge library of “classics”.

Originally released exclusively for the PlayStation back in 1999 – then followed by Dreamcast and PC versions a year later – Dino Crisis took the survival horror template of Capcom’s wildly successful Resident Evil. However, instead of gunning down zombies and exploring the Spencer Mansion, players take control of red-haired heroin, Regina, as she faces prehistoric nasties on Ibis Island.

Much like other PS1 games coming to PS Plus, it would feature a rewind and save feature, as well as visual filters (one of them being styled on retro CRT television sets). We’re also hoping there will be trophies to unlock though Sony have said this is at the discretion of developers. So far, PS1 games that have trophies include:

  • Syphon Filter
  • Ape Escape
  • Hot Shots Golf
  • I.Q.: Intelligent Qube
  • Wild Arms

Capcom’s action horror classic was followed by a sequel before the Japanese publisher buddied up with Microsoft to bring Dino Crisis 3 exclusively to Xbox. However, the series’ final outing left a lot to be desired, set in space and subject to middling scores from critics.

Earlier this year, it almost looked as though the series might return. However, Capcom pulled a bait and switch, announcing Exoprimal, a co-op shooting where you take on massive dinosaur swarms that rain from the sky.
