Dragonball: The Breakers’ Closed Beta is Next Week and You Can Register Now

Dragonball the Breakers

Dragonball: The Breakers’ closed beta takes place next week and, going by a new gameplay trailer, it looks like it could be a lot of fun.

True, we weren’t all that taken with it last week, mainly because it the initial teaser trailer didn’t do much to make it stand out. But Bandai Namco have not only detailed how you can get in on this asymmetric multiplayer game’s closed beta, they’ve put out a new trailer that makes it look a lot more appealing.

The eleven minute trailer illustrates how the survivors characters can elude the Raider, the big bad who’s out to capture, absorb or kill them all. It also reveals that, as the Raider, you’ll begin life as a low level creature but level when you absorb new survivors. It’s not clear just how vulnerable you’ll be, but we love the idea of initially having to employ stealth, rather than being able to charge into the battlefield and annihilate everything in your path.

Another neat touch is the way that survivors can briefly morph into Goku or one of the Dragonball universe’s other badasses. The bad news is that while you can brawl with the Raider, that power is limited so killing them’s not an option, at best you can delay them while the others prepare to escape.

That, in turn, brings up a fun dilemma – as a survivor, do you stick around waiting for not-Goku to arrive or do you flee while he’s punching the living daylights out of Cell. We know what we’d do, but we’re not telling.

So how do you get in on this action? Dragonball: The Breakers won’t arrive till 2022, when it’ll hit PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. But there’s a free PC closed beta on the 3rd and 4th of December. You’re not guaranteed admission, but you can apply through this link and, based on what we’ve seen so far, it’ll be worth taking Dragonball: The Breakers for an early test drive.
