DualSense Edge Controller For PS5 Revealed

PlayStation showed one thing at the Gamescom 2022 Opening Night Live, and it’s a new controller. The DualSense Edge wireless controller for the PS5 is for players who are looking for… an edge… on their gaming with more customisation options.

This is essentially what the Xbox Wireless Controller Elite but for PlayStation- a higher-end controller with changeable sticks and back pedals.

But the DualSense Edge offers more to it than just that. The sensitivity of the dead zone of each analog stick can be adjusted. So you can have it be super-sensitive to the slightest of movement, or require the stick to move as close to the edge to register an input. Similarly, the triggers have adjustable dead zone and travel distance.

Not only that, you can save multiple custom profiles and swap them on the fly. There’s a dedicated Fn button (sitting at the bottom of the analog stick when the controller is facing at the front) to switch between these profiles, which can also store your game volume and chate balance.

The analog stick caps can be changed between three types (standard, high dome, and low dome) and the back buttons can be a half-dome button or a lever. These back buttons can be configured as any other button input. The analog sticks themselves are replaceable outright- without needing to disassemble the whole controller in doing so, though no extra sticks are supplied with a purchase.

Plus, the controller includes a braided USB Type C cable, and has a connector housing so the cable is locked to the controller.

The DualSense Edge also has some subtle design changes to the look compared to a regular DualSense. The touchpad is black (with the PlayStation symbols printed) on the white colour controller, the buttons are black instead of clear and the black line that awkwardly ends on the edge of a regular DualSense controller continues to the back. The triggers also have texture dimples on the tips. Or edge, if you will.

PlayStation hasn’t revealed pricing and release date yet for the DualSense Edge wireless controller. Don’t expect this to be any cheaper than a regular DualSense of course. The added features here are targeted for pro esports players (and those who are as competitive as the pros), and expect those features to bump the price point by a significant bit.
