Dying Light has finally gone gold

Techland studio’s Dying Light 2 developers and publishers report that the game has finally hit its 1.0 version, or it has “gone gold”. The game will finally be coming to store shelves and digital storefronts after years of being stuck in development hell. Developer Techland previously teased a final release date for their upcoming zombie sequel, Dying Light 2. and after years we’re finally getting our claws on it.

Announced at E3 2018 and delayed indefinitely last year, fans were likening the game to vaporware. There were rumblings of various issues throughout those three years. The final release was pegged for this year, but it has since been pushed back yet again to Feb. 4.

Dying Light 2 will continue the story in the world from the first game. We’re still getting the insane number of mutated zombies, and a mountain of parkour nonsense. The devs have touted more than 3,000 animations that have been recorded for the free-running movement in this sequel. The gameplay will still revolve around dodging zombies and hunting down hidden caches, all while trying to complete quests in an overarching story.

For those not in the know, “going gold” is a media industry term for when the master discs are pressed for a given release. Although since the proliferation of digital distribution and Blu-ray discs, gold masters aren’t really a thing anymore for most printings. Still, the concept of the gold master being the finishing point of production has stuck around.

As of now, Techland will continue to work on the game and develop patches. There will also be DLC that is developed over the next few months post-launch.

Dying Light 2 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on February 4, 2022.
