Elden Ring Already Becomes One of the Best Selling Games in the US for the Last Year

After a period of just four days, Elden Ring has managed to become one of the top selling games in the US over the past 12 months. This sees it beat titles that have been out for weeks (if not months), including Far Cry 6, Battlefield 2042, Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Dying Light 2: Stay Human and Horizon: Forbidden West.

How successful is Elden Ring?

Elden Ring currently sits at number 5 in the US top ten video games of the past 12 months, so from March 2021 to the end of February 2022. According to the US NPD data, as explained by Mat Piscatella, it was beaten only by Call of Duty: Vanguard, Madden NFL 22, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, and the combined sales of Pokemon: Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. The difference is that Elden Ring had just four days to achieve this position, whereas all of the other titles have been out for at least three months.

Unsurprisingly, this meant Elden Ring also made its debut as the best-selling game of February 2022 as well as the best selling game in 2022 so far. Its launch sales were the second highest for any title released throughout the last 12 months; it was beaten only by COD Vanguard. Elden Ring was also the best selling title on Xbox and Steam for the month, but not for PlayStation. Here it was beaten by Horizon Forbidden West, whose dollar sales set a new launch record for PS5. As Piscatella later said, Elden Ring has emphatically managed to cross from the enthusiast market into the mass market.

In other news, the Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Season Pass will add four scenario expansions, a seventh unannounced class, and a Butt Stallion cosmetic pack. The DLC will start arriving in April. Elsewhere, Elite Dangerous development has ended on PlayStation and the Odyssey expansion will only ever be released on PC.
