Elden Ring’s PS4 Pro Version Seemingly Runs Smoother on PS5 Than Native PS5 Version

Elden Ring_01

FromSoftware’s upcoming Elden Ring isn’t due for release for at least 4 months from now, although tests conducted on the game’s recent closed network test have revealed some rather interesting results. Elden Ring runs smoother on the PS5 when running the game’s PS4 Pro version via backward compatibility, as opposed to the native PS5 version itself, as revealed by Digital Foundry’s Thomas Morgan on Twitter.

Elden Ring‘s quality mode, which outputs a native 4K resolution has a frame rate of 47 FPS in the snapshot he shared. Performance mode fares better, although it’s still a frame short of hitting 60 FPS. However, when running the PS4 Pro version via backward compatibility, the game runs at 60 FPS on the PS5.

While the results aren’t surprising, given that the PS4 Pro version runs at a lower resolution, it is certainly an interesting scenario to look at. Of course, it also needs to be clarified that this is pre-release beta, and optimizations will probably be done as the game moves closer to release.
