Coming this December, Wytchwood will invite you to brew some wicked, life-warping potions.
Not to be confused with Brewmaster, a more booze orientated brew-em-up, Wytchwood casts you as a potion-making witch of the forests. And not the nice, crystal-wearing, poultice making kind, either – going by what we know, your character is a bit of a wrong ‘un.
That’s not to say the people she’ll be cursing don’t deserve it, but don’t count on them thanking you. But before anyone can get their just desserts, she’ll need the right ingredients which is where you come in. You have to guide her around the forest, gathering potion components and trying not to get murdered by various fairytale creatures.

Story aside, what really stands out is how gorgeous the game looks. Actually, let me correct myself. What really stands out is how gorgeous the game looks and that your character is wearing a metal pot on in their head. We’re assuming there’ll be some in-game explanation for this, whether it’s armour or your character has just fallen head-first into it and can’t get it off.
But Wytchwood does look great. It has the kind of papercraft look that you’d get from pop-up fairytale books. The deliberately jerky animation helps sell the illusion that the entire game is set in storyland. Even better, you’ll soon be able to get your hands on it, to see whether your protagonist is as critical to everyone’s story as she believes.
Wytchwood will magic its way onto the PC, Xbox and PlayStation this December 9th. If you’re in the US, it’s also coming to the Nintendo Switch on the 9th in the US, but if you’re in the EU you won’t get the Switch version till the 27th.
