Although it is unlikely that any cards will be released into packs, we should see the first set of SBCs drop and also some Objectives players, with the event likely to run for a week, ending on Friday, 3 March, when FUT Birthday could take over.

It reveals that Real Madrid v Atletico Madrid and PSG v Marseille will be two of the matches covered in the series, as many predicted!

Showdown Series

The Showdown Series is a returning promo to FIFA 23 Ultimate Team, first introduced in FUT 22.

If it follows what happened last year, then we should see daily Showdown SBCs highlighting key upcoming matches.

We also gained Showdown Objectives, which let you unlock a card from each team of a selected matchup for free.

NEARLY TIME – The Showdown Series is returning to FUT

It is unlikely that a special team will be coming to packs, although we could see a ‘Best Of’ Team of the Week if EA is feeling generous!

Hopefully, there will be plenty of upgrade SBCs released too, helping you convert low fodder into higher-rated players, in order to complete more of the Showdown SBCs.

Predictions

There are plenty of players that could be included as Showdown cards in the promo, so instead of highlighting specific players, we will take a look at some of the big fixures that may feature.

The weekend has some tasty-looking matchups, so we could even see a tidal wave of content released over a couple of days, instead of the promo lasting for a full week.

How do Showdown cards work?

FIFA 23 Showdown cards are a very simple, but very clever concept, that relies on real-world footballing fixtures and results to determine upgrades to cards.

To start off, two cards are released as Showdown players for a limited time for an upcoming fixture, usually pitting two relatively equally matched teams against each other that have an interesting or important fixture upcoming.

FUT players can unlock both cards if they wish, or they can ‘bet’ on which team they think will win the fixture and only complete that item, in hope of a further upgrade.

Once the SBC or Objectives expire and the game is played, the Showdown cards receive upgrades based on the result of the fixture.

For the team that wins the fixture, the corresponding Showdown card will receive a +2 OVR Upgrade in-game, further boosting the card to new heights, while the card from the team that lost will remain the same rating.

If the fixture results in a draw, then both cards will receive a +1 OVR Upgrade.

Showdown Series Leaks

The leaks for the Showdown Series in FIFA 23 Ultimate Team are starting to come in, with Fut Sheriff on hand as always to reveal the information.

The Madrid derby was the first fixture revealed to have players coming for it, but a HUGE returning card is catching everyone’s attention!

Liverpool will host Manchester United in the Premier League, with promising youngster Harvey Elliott leaked for an upgrade, along with fan favourite Wout Weghorst!

The Dutch giant was one of the standout cards from the promo last year, so if his stats are anything similar and he manages to get an upgrade, we will have a total beast on our hands.

The following players are leaked to gain Showdown cards:

  • Harvey Elliott (OVR 90)
  • Wout Weghorst (OVR 90)
  • Dani Ceballos (OVR 87)
  • Nahuel Molina (OVR 87)
