Finest cruise past EG.PA to stay in the lower bracket

EG.PA‘s debut event under their new organization did not go according to plan, as the squad was eliminated on the first day of Pinnacle Cup Championship 2022 following their 0-2 defeat at the hands of Finest in the lower bracket of Group B. Ben “ben1337” Smith‘s men were knocked down from the upper bracket by Astralis earlier today and were not able to bounce back against the Swedes.

Meanwhile, Finest will continue to ride the lower bracket, facing the loser of the match between Astralis and Imperial next on Thursday. Jędrzej “Bogdan” Rokita‘s men began their event with a loss against Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo‘s men, but might get the chance to get revenge in the decider match.

EG.PA‘s pick of Dust2 backfired as their offense was quickly shut down by the Swede’s successful opening pistol. It took a couple of rounds for the North Americans to come online, stringing a few wins together courtesy of a Wesley “viz” Harris 1v3 post-plant on the B bombsite. The two teams then exchanged a few sporadic rounds before Finest took control of the server thanks to Niclas “PlesseN” Plessen‘s impact, leading to a 9-6 advantage for the local team. Switching sides did very little to change EG.PA‘s fortunes as they only found three rounds on the defensive before conceding a 9-16 defeat.

Finest began their run on their pick of Inferno right where they left off on Dust2, taking their third pistol round of the series to gain the early momentum and a 5-0 lead. Guy “anarkez” Trachtman‘s AWP was on point today and helped his team to extend their lead over the North Americans to 9-3 despite Jonathan “Jonji” Carey‘s best efforts. A late resurgence from EG.PA allowed them to limit their deficit to just 6-9 going into halftime, but Finest were still clearly sat on the driver’s seat.

After securing the last pistol of the series, the Swedish-majority squad strung together four more rounds on the defense before ben1337‘s men were able to respond. Two hits on the A bombsite would yield the only rounds that EG.PA claimed in the second half as Finest quickly recovered to put an end to the series with a 16-8 scoreline.
