One of 15 retail sportsbooks
The first non-casino retail sportsbook in Connecticut is now open for business. The Connecticut Lottery Corporation, Sportech Venues, and Rush Street Interactive (RSI) jointly announced the launch on Monday of the PlaySugarHouse retail sportsbook at Sports Haven in New Haven. A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at the retail sportsbook on Monday, with state and local officials among those in attendance.
PlaySugarHouse online sportsbook is already up and running
Fifteen retail sportsbooks will eventually be operational in the state. The PlaySugarHouse online sportsbook is already up and running for people in Connecticut.
More launches coming soon
There are plans to soon launch PlaySugarHouse retail sportsbooks at Bobby V’s Restaurant and Sports Bar in both Windows Locks and Stamford. These locations will offer a variety of entertainment options, including odds boards, many television monitors, and food and drink menus.
People who are at least 21 years old can place bets on a wide range of college and professional sports. There will be staffed stations for accepting bets, as well as self-service kiosks.
Other PlaySugarHouse retail sportsbooks will be launching in the coming weeks at Sportech locations in Norwalk, Milford, New Britain, Torrington, Waterbury, Manchester, and Hartford.
Exciting time for Connecticut
Speaking about the launch of the state’s first non-casino retail sportsbook was Connecticut Lottery Corporation CEO and president Greg Smith. He spoke about how the launch was a long time coming and that the lottery is honored to be the sole state-wide retail operator. He said: “Together with our partners Rush Street Interactive and Sportech Venues, we can offer bettors world-class, in-person sportsbooks at accessible locations throughout the state and mobile sports betting under the PlaySugarHouse brand.”
RSI CEO Richard Schwartz also welcomed the launch. He referred to the existing brand recognition and retail presence of the Connecticut Lottery in the state, Sportech’s venues, and RSI’s “market proven products and services.”
Following a one-week soft launch, the full rollout of online casinos and sportsbooks took place on October 19. PlaySugarHouse, FanDuel, and DraftKings were ready to go live straight away.
